Comparison of Neogene low-crowned Hystrix species (Mammalia, Porcupines, Rodentia) from Europe, West and Southeast Asia Naturalis
Weers, D.J. van.
The low-crowned Hystrix species known of the Neogene from Europe and Asia and some new finds from Shihuiba near Lufeng, South China, are compared on the basis of numerical data. The taxonomical allocation of the seven species recognised thus far is maintained. The occurrences of two coeval Eurasian late Turolian species is discussed. The material from Lufeng is described and allocated to Hystrix primigenia (Wagner, 1848), implicating an area of distribution of this species from S.E. Europe to S.E. Asia in the Turolian. In the northern Chinese Hystricidae the increase of the cheek tooth height is more advanced than in the the West Asiatic and European representatives. The difference in ecological environment of Hystrix gansuensis Wang & Qiu, 2002 (North...

Conférence de l'EAS "Biotechnologies for quality". Barcelone, Espagne, 20-23 octobre 2004 - Rapport de mission ArchiMer
Lacroix, Denis.

Cost and energy evaluation of organic cauliflower in sole crop and living mulch systems Organic Eprints
Ortolani, Livia; Kristensen, Hanne L.; Campanelli, Gabriele; Bavec, Martina; Bavec, Franc; von Fragstein, Peter; Bergmam, Astrid; Leteo, Fabrizio; Canali, Stefano.
This paper presents the findings of an assessment aimed to evaluate, in terms of cost and energy consumption, the introduction of living mulches in different organic vegetable systems producing cauliflower. The study was carried out in three European countries (IT, SLO and DK) in the frame of the InterVeg project (Core Organic II). The achievements demonstrated that, in economic terms, farmers’ choice of a specific technique, like living mulch instead of sole cropping, can be influenced by two key elements: human labor and fossil fuel consumption. Different organic systems have a different proportion in using the two inputs depending on the specific farm strategy.

Country Reports Organic Eprints
Willer, Helga; Bteich, Marie Reine; Meredith, Stephen.
The country reports presented in this section provide a snapshot in time of the prospects in different countries as well as outlining the diversity of European organic farming and markets. This section builds on the information and analysis in Chapter 5, with reports from over 30 countries. The reports begin by summarising the key indicators for 2012, from developments in the area of agricultural land under organic production and the number of different organic operators to the latest information on the organic market and trade. In addition the authors observe the sector’s current highlights and history, key institutions, production base and the market for organic products. The reports also consider the application of organic standards, legislation and...

Cross-European and functional food related consumer segmentation for new product development AgEcon
Sparke, Kai; Menrad, Klaus.
Functional Food emerged as a constant segment in the European food market and offer potential for product innovations which make them attractive for the food industry in nearly stagnating markets. Target group research is one key factor for successful innovative food products. The aim of this project was to develop and test a Functional Food related consumer segmentation model. For this purpose a survey was conducted in Germany, the United Kingdom, Poland and Spain with a total of 590 respondents. Factor analysis revealed consumers' motivation to buy or to refuse Functional Food. Motives, consumers' knowledge about Functional Food, their trust towards diverse actors in the context of nutrition and their purchase pattern were used in a cluster analysis and...

Cultural Diversity and Economic Performance: Evidence from European Regions AgEcon
Bellini, Elena; Ottaviano, Gianmarco I.P.; Pinelli, Dino; Prarolo, Giovanni.
We investigate the relationship between diversity and productivity in Europe using an original dataset covering the NUTS 3 regions of 12 countries of the EU15 (Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, former Western Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom). In so doing, we follow the empirical methodology developed by Ottaviano and Peri (2006a) in the case of US cities. The main idea is that, as cultural diversity may affect both production and consumption through positive or negative externalities, the joint estimation of price and income equations is needed to identify the dominant effect. Based on this methodology, we find that diversity is positively correlated with productivity. Moreover, we find evidence...

D4.4 Final revised database Organic Eprints
Willer, Helga; Schaack, Diana.
In the framework of the OrganicDataNetwork project and internal project database was established in order to store the data collected in the two survey rounds of the OrganicDataNetwork project (Willer and Schaack 2013 and 2014). The database builds on the one that the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and the Agricultural Market Information Company (AMI) use for their organic data collection activities. However, this database was considerably expanded during the OrganicDataNetwork project. This document explains the features of the internal OrganicDataNetwork database and how the data can be acceded.

D5.1 Report on the methodologies for data quality improvement along the whole supply chain Organic Eprints
Feldmann, Corinna; Hamm, Ulrich.
Depending on the availability of data, organic as well as total data for different products, a number of checks to validate the consistency of data can be carried out. Potential quality checks were described in chapter 2.2, which includes a manual for data quality checking procedures. In the results part of this report, these checks were applied to six products from Organic Data Network partners participating in the project’s case studies.

One of the main aims of the case studies was to publish improved market reports. The data collected as part of the six case studies have been, or will shortly be, published in the five improved national organic market reports and one first regional market report (MOAN case study). This will make a contribution towards filling the many gaps that continue to exist in organic market data collection in Europe.

D8.1 Project website, downloadable project leaflet and PowerPoint presentation Organic Eprints
The project aims at increasing the availability of data and market information in order to improve the transparency of the organic market, by better coordination and other improvements of market data collection activities. As a means to these ends, the project aims to establish a permanent network of stakeholders and bodies actively involved in organic market data collection and publication and to review the needs of end-users with respect to organic market data. This network will closely co-operate with the European Commission, Eurostat and statistical offices of Member States, using existing structures for collecting and processing data on the organic market and stimulating the development of new ones by adapting existing models. OrganicDataNetwork is...
